Youth can help India to get rid of corruption

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today made Haryana his latest stop in his ongoing effort to strengthen the Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) membership drive.

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today came in Haryana to hold an interactive session with the students of Haryana. He went as scheduled to three districts namely Hisar, Kurukshetra and Karnal of Haryana. It was a hectic day for him as he went along the three districts on a “youth connect” mission. In his first interactive session at Chaudhary Charan Singh Agricultural University in Hisar, he met a large number of students who had a lot of questions for the young MP. In Kurukshetra, he held an interactive session with the students of Kurukshetra University and answered all the questions asked by the students. He asked students to join NSUI as a means to represent the youth and serve the nation as well. Rahul Gandhi gave emphasis on the joining of youth with the politics. On being asked about why he joined politics, he replied “I have joined politics because of my family. But, I do not want this tradition to go on further. I sincerely want educated youth like you to come forward and join politics, so that the change could take place in the system.”

Countrywide talent hunt has been the objective of Rahul Gandhi ever since he has plunged into politics. He initiated this programme keeping in view that the reluctant youth would join the programme once they become assured that they can also get space in political parties without having any political godfathers. To drive it home, he has roped in the Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections (FAME), an NGO headed by former chief election commissioner J M Lyngdoh. To cpnduct the elections.

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is keen to conduct organizational elections and democratize the NSUI and Youth Congress, seen by many as the future of the Congress in a country where youth constitutes major chunk of the total population. Therefore, the polls for electing youth are held in all states and at panchayat, block, district and state levels too.

In his last interactive session of the day, he met scores of students of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal. Rahul Gandhi opened his heart saying “in childhood I used to get enraged as I heard about the corruption. He asked the youth to work towards eradicating corruption from the society.. “The Congress leader said youth play a vital and important role in the development of a country and without their contribution, a nation cannot progress,” a student who participated in the interaction said. Rahul Gandhi talked about the contribution of Cow in village economy. Naming New Zeeland and other developed countries where milk production is more than that of India, he said “cow is regarded as a commercial animal in New Zeeland and other developed countries, whereas in India it is a part of our family. Keeping the sensitivities of this issue in view, I urge you to innovate a way to increase the production of milk without hurting the sentiments .”

Determined to recruit more and more youngsters into the youth wing of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi has a clear message for aspirants. “Your image should be clean and no member having criminal background is allowed to contest organizational elections,” he said, adding that in youth congress and NSUI level playing field is being provided to youngsters, so that they move upwards in the political ladder.

He urged the students to become a part of larger political process by linking up with the NSUI. “Country should be the highest priority for any body living in it. And to pay back to our country, we must look forward to joining the politics,” he said.
