Inconvenient Youth Becomes Largest Youth Environmental Social Network and Raises Awareness of Global Warming

Menlo Park, Calif. (PRWEB), October 9, 2008 -- Inconvenient Youth (http://www.inconvenientyouth.org), a non-profit, non-partisan network for and by teens, announced today that more than 1,100 young adults have registered for the organization's online social network. Since its August 2008 launch, Inconvenient Youth has trained young people to educate their peers about climate change. The group is currently touring the U.S. to recruit members and raise awareness of global warming.

"By becoming a member of Inconvenient Youth, teens can learn how to effectively educate others about global warming," said Inconvenient Youth founder Mary Doerr, a high school senior. "Social networking, in general, is a perfect way for young people to stay informed. On Inconvenient Youth, they can show their enthusiasm for the cause and unite in the fight against climate change."

Disappointed by the lack of climate change solutions that spoke specifically to her generation, Doerr and her peers founded Inconvenient Youth in hopes of inspiring young people to take action against global warming, influence public policy on environmental issues and become agents of change. As such, Inconvenient Youth coordinates with teens across the country, and provides them with the knowledge, tactics and tools to become activists in their own communities.

Inconvenient Youth was founded and is driven by a team of three teenagers based in Menlo Park, Calif. The non-profit network trains teens to teach a youth-focused version of the An Inconvenient Truth presentation originally created by former United States Vice President Al Gore.
