Speech in Defense of Free Speech, Video Games and Youth SuffrageApr 17, 2012
National Youth Rights Association board member, Usiel Phoenix, gives an eloquent speech in front of the US Supreme Court defending the rights of young people. Her speech references the oral argument in the Schwarzenegger v. EMA case going on right behind her, and takes a strong stand in favor of free speech, video games and youth suffrage. Oral argument (and the speech) was on November 2, 2010, which also happened to be election day across the nation, the day when millions of intelligent, passionate young people like Usiel are denied their right to vote. Alex Koroknay-Palicz - Executive Director of National Youth Rights AssociationApr 15, 2012
Aspart of a greater movement with no real center or name, the Common Ground Youth Coalition is interviewing leading young change-makers to create a snapshot of what young people are doing for their generation nationally, and globally. The goal is to showcase young people from all walks of life who have been successful at making a change in the world, in any sector - public, private, political, religious, social, cultural, non-profit, etc. We hope that our collective work can demonstrate how youth can solve today's issues, work across traditional boundaries, and inspire others to do the same. Alex Koroknay-Palicz, originally from Michigan, moved to the DC area after attending American University. During his senior year in high school, Alex successfully changed the policy of several age-discriminatory stores in his hometown of Holland, MI. Since then Alex has become actively involved in all levels of the Youth Rights Movement. In his capacity as NYRA's Executive Director, Alex has appeared on CNN and Fox News several times and has spoken at numerous conferences about youth rights and NYRA. Alex has served as Executive Director since in 2000.

Fighting Youth Discrimination: Q&A with NYRA President Jeffrey NadelMay 09, 2012
Are young people being discriminated against? Founded in 1968, the National Youth Rights Association (NYRA, youthrights.org) says yes and works to educate the public on how laws intended to protect young people instead treat them as second-class citizens. Reason.tv sat down with NYRA's president Jeffrey Nadel to discuss how drinking, curfew, and other laws punish young adults. Nadel points to New Jersey's Kyliegh's law as an example of how the unintended consequences of many laws aimed at protecting youth actually endanger them. The law requires drivers under the age of 21 to have a red decal on the license plates of the vehicles they drive, ostensibly to allow law enforcement to be more protective of them. But the decals have instead lead violent drivers to target those cars; infractions by younger drivers also come with harsher penalties for typical traffic violations. Instead of one-size-fits-all policies that punish responsible youth, Nadel says that decisions about alcohol consumption, work hours, and even voting should be more tailored to individuals, regardless of age. For more on Kyleigh's Law, read Reason magazine's June 2011 story "Dead Kids Make Bad Laws."
