In 2006, nearly 6000 students committed suicides and three years later; the numbers have only grown further. Exams and exam related stress, peer pressure, entrance tests, ragging, parental problems and family issues have been the reasons for this rampant increase in the number of adolescents and young adults committing suicides. In the past few years, a student's life has changed significantly. Severe competition, extreme comparisons and fierce expectations from parents, teachers, family and friends has created an enormous amount of pressure on these young kids. It is seen that childhood today is not longer a joyful experience; instead lives of children and young adults are full of stress, tension, apprehension. Blame it on the current education system, 'extra tuition' out-of-school trends, coaching classes, competitive exams, reservation policies, admission processes, quota systems, parental attitude, modernization or anything else -- the fact of the matter is that student suicide is India is an alarming problem. So how does one prevent these young lives from killing themselves? Parents and teachers play the pivotal role in caring, consoling, counseling and most importantly 'being there' for these kids/students. Right from the time when your child is born, parents should make sure that they bring-up their child in an open stress-free happy environment that does not create any kind of pressure on the kids. Stephen O'Neill (born 19 November 1980) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Tyrone Senior football team. He won three All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals, two Under 21 medals, and a Minor medal. He was the 2005 Footballer of the Year. His style of play is quite traditional as a full forward, often getting on the end of passes, and scoring with his preferred left foot. It's his superior physical strength that sets him apart from his peers, coupled with his agility on the ball, making him very difficult to mark. O'Neill announced his retirement from the Tyrone Gaelic football team in January 2008,[1][2] but made himself available for the All-Ireland final of the same year. Tyrone won the competition, but O'Neill refused to accept the medal, citing the fact that he felt he hadn't earned it, having not been part of the team on their journey to the final.[3] Contents [hide] O'Neill is a primary school teacher at St. Patrick's Primary School in Gortin, County Tyrone.[4] He previously taught at St. Mary's Primary School in Bellaghy, County Londonderry.
